What is a drum filter and how does it work?
A drum filter is a mechanical filter that uses a fine stainless-steel screen wrapped around a rotating cylindrical “drum”. Water from the pond or tank passes through the screen, leaving sediment, fish waste and organic debris on the outside. When the screen starts to clog, the water level rises and triggers an automatic spray wash that flushes the debris to the drain — so you rarely clean the filter by hand, and the water that comes out is clear and ready for your biological stage or to return to the tank.
The key is screen fineness. The models we recommend use a 150-mesh screen (about 100 micron), which captures fine particles very well for aquariums and small ponds.

Add full automation with a timer
Some drum filters wash on water level, but if you want a precise time-based wash cycle or to build your own control logic, the JYT2 timer controller is programmable with up to 40 functions and supports a wide voltage range (AC 85–265V, DC 7–36V) to drive a drum filter’s wash pump or motor accurately.
Sizing it to your system
A simple rule: pick a drum filter rated for a little more than your pump’s real flow, and never feed it beyond spec. For example, the 10 t/h model should be paired with a pump no larger than 10,000 L/h. As a general guide, aim to turn the whole pond volume over at least 1–2 times per hour.
